Default Rendered Speculation: 2010 BMW 5-Series

Filed under: Spy Photos, Sedans/Saloons, BMW

With cars everywhere going all edgy, it should be clear that Chris Bangle's controversial "flame surfacing" design language has left its mark. Whether it ever looked right on the BMW 5-Series, however, is still up for debate, even after the mid-life facelift. (Not that it has stopped BMW from rolling out its 5,000,000th 5-Series earlier this week.) However the 5 is due for replacement late next year, and our friends at eGMCarTech think they have a good idea of what it will look like.
Codenamed E62, the 2010 5-Series is widely anticipated to draw on the new styling direction previewed by the CS Concept which BMW laid on us in Shanghai. That means a wider grille flanked by slanty eyes, while around back the tail-lights are expected to follow the widely-spaced units seen on the new 3-Series. The range of engines will carry on largely unchanged from the current 5-Series, although there's been buzz about a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with around 400 horsepower to slot in below the next M5.

My wife is a 5-series fan. Quote: "You can buy me one when I'm done playing with my VW (EOS)".

I told her: "You need a 2nd job. I can't afford to have two car enthusiasts in the house."

My wife had been talking wistfully about getting a 3 sedan after the lease on her Pilot ran out and I had been thinking I might 'surprise' her with one. The 5, however, is not in my budget, given I just got her an EOS VR6 (for a 'fun' and 'girls night out' car), and I am planning on a new car in the next year myself, along with both kids in private school.

I think its about time for a mid-life crisis...

Heh, I like the idea of a "smaller lighter" Vette that GM has been speculating on, given the new CAFE standards.

Of course, I love the Z4M Coupe, and would buy one at the current discounts if I could somehow slip a 2 seater by my wife. (Seriously, I have a truck, two jeeps, her Pilot and an EOS...we have ENOUGH seats already!)
